Mod of the day : Underlife

here is only a sewer system under the Imperial City in plain Oblivion. This is a real pity, because sewers can give a real boost to the reality feeling of the virtual world. Sewers are known to harbour criminal types (just as every cave in Oblivion seems to be infested with bandits), and with this idea in mind, the mod 'Underlife' was created.

By adding sewer systems to Bravil and Cheydinhal, complete with NPC's that live there (beggers and the sorts) and monsters that roam the tunnels (rats and other little nasties), there seems to be a whole world living under these cities now. Normally we don't add mods to the site that are still in development (alpha or beta versions), but this mod is so cool and in fact completely playable, we decided to add it nonetheless. Better yet, we voted to make it 'mod of the day' ! The only thing that could be added is obviously the sewers for the other cities, and I guess that's why it's v0.4.2.

Mod of the day : Vassoul

A new island, with a new dungeon, near Bravil. Sounded easy enough, but as I would find out soon enough, it was everything except easy. The readme file contained quite clear instructions on where to find the island, so I took my horse for a little swim and found the island at the described location.

Some bandits were guarding the coastline, so I had a little brawl as soon as I got to land. I made my way to the entrance of the dungeon and quickly went inside. I dodged some traps and bashed some skulls on my way to a central room. I was so caught up in the action that I didn’t really look where I was going and ended up falling down a ledge, into the room.

Attacked from all sides now, I panicked and quickly quaffed some random potions. The last potion I took tasted particularly strong and only moments after I drank it, I felt renewed energy surge through my veins. In a wild frenzy I waved my sword around me and in a matter of seconds I had killed 3 men. Now I had time to look around me and see what had happened exactly. I had fallen down a ledge that was too high to climb back up. To cut a long story short, I was stuck in the cave for 3 days without food or water. I eventually found a way back up and managed to haul all the valuables from the dungeon back to the city.

This Oblivion mod is one of the larger quest mods of this moment. The dungeon is on a new piece of land and the dungeon itself is quite large en well designed. There are several ways of getting to certain rooms and I managed to get lost a few times in the beginning. I did notice some minor bugs like rats and crabs that had died before I even had a chance of laying my eyes upon them, but no show stoppers. All the enemies could find paths to walk around the dungeons, making it hard to just run away from them and take them out from a distance. The treasure at the end is worth all the trouble, without being overpowered. That’s all I will say about it.
